The Location

Atrani is a town and comune on the Amalfi Coast in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. It is located in the south of Amalfi, several minutes drive down the coast.

The town is located between the Civita Hill and Aureo Hill. Atrani is along the valley of the Dragone River, named for a legend saying there once was a terrible dragon that would breathe fire and would hide himself there.

Because of the beauty of its alley, gardens, squares, buildings, characteristic “scalinatelle” (stairs) and for its overall atmosphere, Atrani has been used as a set for film commercials. In 2012 it was used as the backdrop for a Fiat commercial. Though it is part of the Amalfi Coast, it is the only town along the coast to preserve intact its antique, traditional characteristics.

What Our Retreat Students Say About The Experience

The majority of students will stay at Villa Rosa which is where all classes will take place. We have also reserved rooms at four B&B's and apartments in Atrani (Eva Rooms, Torre dello Ziro, Emerald & Coral, Marea) which are all 10-15 minutes walk from Villa Rosa.

VILLA ROSA
On the Lattari Mountains slopes, Villa Rosa borders and overlooks the small village of Atrani, practically reflecting in the Amalfi Coast sea, looking like a miracle of the nature given use by the past, it is characterized by breathtaking landscapes and lemon, myrtle and geranium heady scents.

Only 300 steps separate Villa Rosa from Atrani beach, that is reachable slipping into little lanes and quiet and secluded alleys, decorated with colorful flowers, which communicate the villagers' warmth, affability and hospitality. Nearly all Villa Rosa's rooms have views of the sea, the apartments are equipped with everything you need to have a nice stay, far from the noise of the city, furthermore, the swimming-pool near them represents an exceptional alternative to the wild and indented shore of the Amalfi Coast. More info at http://www.residencevillarosa.it/

EVA ROOMS
This small cosy family run bed & breakfast, is a perfect choice for those who wish to explore the splendid Amalfi Coast, from a beautifully spectacular, romantic location, truly full of charm.
All recently renovated rooms, have a spacious terrace directly overlooking the sea with a great view along the coastline and the pretty little town of Atrani. TORRE DELLO ZIRO
Perched on the hill that slopes towards the sea from Ravello to Amalfi, caressed by the aroma of lemons and cuddled by the slow roar of the stream that flows to its base, the “Torre dello Ziro” (Literally translated “The Ziro Tower”) is the ideal refuge for those fleeing from the bustle of everyday life in search of an intimate, intense, full of charm and historical one.

The recent restoration which was completed in May 2010, while erasing the signs of the times, was able to leave intact all the charm of the house’s story: the vaulted ceilings, the pergola in the garden with the panoramic view, the hand-painted tiles, and the colors of the Mediterranean all draw guests into a timeless world.

The house, complete with private parking, overlooks a terraced garden which offers a splendid panorama framing the actual “Torre dello Ziro” silhouette against the blue sky meeting the sea. More info at https://www.torredelloziro.com/

EMERALD & CORAL
Lights and heights are the main features of this house, giving it charm and character. From a high rock the house overlooks the sea and it is exposed to the vivid rays of the sun, absorbing all its light. From inside the house and particularly from the very bright and high-level terrace that recalls the foredeck of a ship hanging over the sea, the sky and the land, you can admire a sight that never fails to amaze: you will be delighted by the changing colours of the sky, that is enlightened by the shining sun in the morning and moonlit in the evening; you will enjoy the view of the bell tower, with its top peeping through the surrounding roofs; you will be carried away by the magic of the sea and finally your gaze will rest on the green cliffs of the Atrani valley. Q. What about accommodation?

A. Villa Rosa, Eva Rooms, Torre dello Ziro, Emerald & Coral and Marea are all a 10-15 minute walk from each other. Q. How do I get there?

A. You can travel to Atrani either by air, rail or road.

The closest airport to the Amalfi Coast is Naples International Airport - (NAP) also known as Capodichino airport which is about a 1.5 hour north of Atrani. This is the airport to use for international as well as European flights. You can also come by train getting a ticket to the Salerno Train Station which is south of Atrani.

From the airport or the Salerno train station you can get to Atrani by a combination of public bus, train, ferry, or private transport.

From the airport:

There is a bus service provided by the Curreri company, with numerous daily trips to Piazza Tasso in the center of Sorrento. It takes 1.15 minutes to Sorrento and from there you can take a SITA bus that can take you to Amalfi. Once in Amalfi you can take a taxi to Villa Rosa or your lodging location.

Click to access QUADROXV.pdf

You can also take a ferry from Naples to Amalfi. It usually sails via Capri. Check with ferry companies to get costs and timetables. Once in Amalfi you will have to take a taxi to Atrani lodging.

By train:

You can take a train from anywhere in Europe and go to Salerno. If you fly into Naples, you can also take a train from Naples (at Piazza Garibaldi) to Salerno although you have to first take a bus or taxi to Piazza Garibaldi if coming from the airport.

From the Naples Capodichino airport, take either city bus 3S (appx. 1.10 euro Unico Napoli ticket, purchased at a tabacci shop, convenience store kiosk, or some newsstands) or the specially-marked Alibus (3 euro ticket, purchased onboard) to the Napoli Centrale train station at Piazza Garibaldi. Be sure to validate your Alibus or city bus ticket in the onboard box.

Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to the train station can be hired for approximately 15-25 euros, but use caution as taxi drivers can overcharge. Trains to Salerno run very frequently and cost about 10 euro each way.

Once in Salerno you can take a ferry (to Amalfi), or bus, or taxi to Atrani. Check ferry and SITA bus companies for timetables and costs.

Private Transport:

We can arrange door-to-door private transport from the Naples airport or Salerno to your lodging in Atrani. Cost will depend on pickup location, how many in your party, and when you arrive in the area but usually it is from 50 - 70 euro per person (with a minimum of 2 people). Email us if you are interested in us making your private transport arrangements.

We do not recommend driving on the Amalfi Coast. Driving is difficult, the roads are narrow, and parking is limited.
