Guitar Tuning (BC-101) How To Tune Your Guitar

In this guitar basics series Martin Taylor teaches guitar tuning and how to tune your guitar.

This video shows a few tips on how to tune your guitar. The first thing you must do is to make sure the guitar is in tune with itself.

The twelfth fret of the guitar should be exactly half way between the nut and the bridge. If the bridge is too close then as you go higher up the guitar will go sharp. It if is further away as you further up the neck the guitar will sound flat.

There are many ways to tune a guitar including pitch pipes, tuning forks, by ear and using guitar tuners. Martin advises tuning the A string using a tuning fork or guitar tuner.

Once we have the A in tune we can play the next note which is a D on the fifth fret of the A string. We can then match those two.
